I first discovered The Loch when it opened almost 2 years ago. Run by catering whiz and author, Brigid Kennedy and her husband Kevin, it’s an absolute oasis of delicious food and stunning environment. Plus there’s Brigid and Kevin!
Nestled in the hills of Berrima in The Southern Highlands, NSW, the timber barn has been reclaimed and renovated. The generously proportioned guest suits (accommodating 8) are housed above the original stables. All the rooms are exquisitely appointed with Brigid’s impeccable style – timbers, equine imagery reflecting the stables’ history, beautiful linen and furniture.
I adore the rose garden as you enter the property, a nod to Brigid’s grandmother who taught her about growing roses. Personal favourites from the collection are the deliciously perfumed Atomic Blonde and Mr Lincoln. Brigid tells me she has lots more English David Austin roses to plant. Goody!
Alongside the barn is a grassed flat terrace perfect for large groups and then the substantial vegetable and herb garden, supplemented by the orchard. On Sunday mornings an abundant farmers’ market is held on the verandah with produce from the farm and guests can stay on for a delicious lunch.
Brigid’s catering success from Simmer Catering Events has been mirrored by her cookbooks, All Fired Up for all foods cooked on the barbeque and Small Food celebrating brilliant bite size food for entertaining. These books are both great additions to any home. Her latest project is the Southern Highlands Food & Wine Clusters working with nearby raspberry farms, mushroom farms, wineries and a whiskey distillery.
We have stayed 3 times now and popped in for lunch another time and enjoyed each visit thoroughly. Whether resting in the full bath tub, admiring the abundant vases of delicious smelling roses throughout the accommodation, wandering the gardens, curled up by the fireplace reading a book (does this surprise you?), cooking alongside friends in the communal kitchen, making homemade pizzas in the outdoor fireplace or enjoying delicious meals with produce from The Loch, each time we have had a wonderful experience!
A great way to enjoy a good book and the delicious food of celebrated author and chef in the most gorgeous environment.
